Uttarakhand (Uttranchal) is among most incredibly beautiful and sacred holy states of India and that is why it is known as ‘Dev Bhoomi’. Uttarakhand comprise of beautiful mountains (Himalaya), rivers (Ganga) and a number of pilgrimage places like Hemkund Sahib, Kedarnath, Rishikesh, Badrinath, Gaurikund,  Yamunotri  and many more places motivate people towards spirituality. Every year millions of pilgrims visit to Uttarakhand on pilgrimages and for spirituality. The people enjoy the natural beauty of hills. Uttarakhand is comprises with two contiguous regions “Kumaon” and “Gharwal”. Non Governmental Organisation (NGOs)/ Non Profitable Organisation (NPOs)/ Volunteer Organisation (VOs) are functional in the backward areas of these districts of Uttarakhand and work for their development. Although government is also very supportive for the development and growth of these regions of Uttarakand, and NGOs are working with government and other support agencies there to help the people to improve their living standard.

NGOs in Uttarakhand work for social welfare, development and awareness programmes. They also organise charitable programmes to financially support the socially deprived and needy people of Uttarakhand. They arrange awareness programmes/seminars in rural and urban areas like educational seminars for adults and children, disaster management programmes and other activities for the physical and mental development of the backward people.
