Assam NGOs

Assam located in the northeast region of the India and is famous for tea plantation. Apart from tea plantation, it is famous from tourism point of view as there are various tourist places i.e. Kangiranga National park, Pobitora wildlife sanctuary, and National botanical garden etc. In Assam tea plantation is the vast agricultural sector and major source of income. The crops like jute, potato, rice and various other are also the part of agriculture in Assam. Industry also growing in Assam from last few decades as the state is the source of natural resources such as petroleum, natural gas, minerals and herbal products. Like other states, the growing industry of Assam created the various types of jobs for the people rather than farming only.
The socio- economic status of Assam is good. Rich biodiversity, existence of various wild animal species of threat zone like one horned rhinoceros, wild water buffalo, an endangered golden languor and so many wild animals are the points of attraction for the tourists. Assam is having a rich culture of folk dances, songs, traditions and customs, traditional symbols and dresses. In Assam various languages are to be spoken by the local population.
Educational level is not too good in Assam. Assam is state with large number of scheduled tribes. The industry is growing but still the economic status of the major portion of population is deprived. The conditions of the women are more pathetic than the other states.
The conditions of the tea plantation labor, industrial labor is very poor. They are not getting the actual wages of their hard work. Medical facilities are not available for the industry workers. In tribes base line facilities are not provided to them. The overall social and economic status, women status, education level seeking for the further development.

In Assam Non Profit Organisations/ Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs/ NPOs/ VOs) are part of social development and welfare of the state people. NGOs in Assam has been actively working for genuine social development programmes and welfare activities of urban and rural communities. Assam NGOs are participating in Social development and Charitable issues organised by Government and welfare groups. Assam NGOs are always ready to come ahead to work for the upliftment and betterment of the children, women Development, Education, Social awareness and other objectives.
Non Governmental Organisations in Assam are functioning for Child Education, Child Welfare, Child Rights, Women Development, Women Empowerment, Old age Homes for Old Age persons, Physically and mentally handicap persons, and Upliftment of slum Children and Women. NGOs are well organising Education, Health, Social Justice, Disaster Management, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture Development, Social Awareness, Betterment of Backward and Deprived Communities, Poverty and Distress Relief programmes.
NGO has been implementing the programmes related to Employment, female foeticides, Rain Water Harvesting, Animal Welfare, Science and Technology, Sports, Development of Art, Craft and Culture, Heritage Protection, Conservation of Historical Places The issues like conservation and Protection of environment, Human Rights, Social Equality, Drinking Water issues, Legal Awareness and Aid, Nutrition, Right to Information, Rural and Urban Development, forming and supporting Self Help Groups, Research and Development are main part of the major active NGOs in Assam.
